Atum was the Egyptian god of creation, the primordial sun, and the origins of existence. His name is commonly associated with completeness and the fulfillment of creation, reflecting his role as the divine being from whom the first generations of gods emerged.
According to ancient Egyptian creation mythology, Atum arose from the endless primordial waters of Nun before the existence of the heavens and earth. Through his own divine power, he brought forth Shu, the god of air, and Tefnut, the goddess of moisture.
Shu and Tefnut subsequently became the parents of Geb, the god of earth, and Nut, the goddess of the sky. Their descendants included Osiris, Isis, Seth, and Nephthys, forming the divine family known as the Ennead of Heliopolis.
Atum was closely associated with the sun, particularly its setting phase, symbolizing the completion of the daily solar journey. His connection to both creation and the setting sun represented the eternal cycle of existence, transformation, and renewal.
